 The Day of Pentecost

 Search Corner Information

We ask you to hold in your prayers the members of the Committee as they continue their important work of discernment:

Sheila Collins and Freddy Tovar (Co-Chairs), Aracelis Mullings (Vestry), Kathi Armbrister, Laura Keith, Rafael Padilla, Glen Velker and Jim Carlton (Chaplain).

Gracious and loving God, prosper with your blessing the mission of All Souls’ Episcopal Church.  Deepen, we pray, our love for Christ Jesus and for one another.  As we lift the members of the Search Committee to you, we ask that your guidance and light may be upon them. Fill them with wisdom, and grant them courage and boldness as together they discern your will for a new priest and pastor for this congregation. Surround them with your unconditional and abiding love and illumine them with the glorious light of your salvation. We ask these things in the holy and sacred name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Health Tip: Best Bits of Broccoli

Question: What is the most nutritious part of the broccoli plant?

Answer: The florets contain substantially more cancer fighting phyto-chemicals and beta-carotene (a precursor of Vitamin A) than the stalks, and about the same amounts of minerals and vitamin C.  Raw or lightly cooked or steamed segments will supply the most nutrients.   For a healthy sandwich or salad topping, look for broccoli sprouts which pack 20 to 50 times more phytochemicals than the full-grown plant.

Altar Flowers

Please consider donating $50 in thanksgiving for a special occasion or a special person. Two arrangements are used on the main altar. One is later placed in the Memorial Garden and you may take home the other one. An acknowledgment of your contribution will be in the Parish Newsletter.

Dn. Charles Nominated to Council of Deacons

Bishop Eaton has asked Dn. Charles to assist our new Archdeacon Faye Sommers in forming a Deacons Council.   A 2 day workshop in June at St. Andrews, Boca Raton is planned.   This will be for creating uniformity of diaconate functions in all 78 diocesan churches to the Bishop’s direction. Our 27 deacons while being assigned to specific parishes report solely to the Bishop but work under congregational rectors.

Hospitality

If your surname begins with S-Z, a reminder that there’s an opportunity for you to provide a much needed food item for our hospitality Sunday May 27th. Please check with Joyce Foreman this morning and let her know what you are able to bring to the table.

O Lord, you have taught us that without love whatever we do is worth nothing; Send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts your greatest gift, which is love, the true bond of peace and of all virtue, without which whoever lives is accounted dead before you. Grant this for the sake of your only Son Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Almighty God, you have given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech you that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of your favor and glad to do your will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in your Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to your law, we may show forth your praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in you to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
